BIO DIGESTER INSTALLATION/CONSTRUCTION IN KENYA

A bio digester is an onsite built underground structure, where waste water/black water (waste from the toilet) is decomposed. The black water is decomposed into the bio-digester through drainage pipes. The system has an in let on one end and an outlet on the other end. At the in let as the term suggest is where the waste water from the house gets into the bio digester. At the out let is where the water gets out of the bio digester. Inside the bio digester, are two chambers separated by baffles. In the first chamber is where solid waste settles at the bottom part of the bio-digester and scum floats at the top. In this chamber bio degration takes place with the help of bacteria which are added as bio enzymes chemicals. These bio enzymes act as a catalyst to speed up the bio degration reaction/process. These bacteria digest the solid waste in the first chamber of the bio digester into water which flows to the chamber. In this second chamber some fine solid waste flows in and continue to be digested into water which later flows through the outlet into the soak pit. Soak pit is the second part of the bio digester where water drain to from the bio digester. At the soak pit, hardcore is placed to help the water from the bio digester to percolate naturally to the soil into ground water. A soak pit can also be constructed as a water collection point for reuse depending on clients wants. By the use of the bio enzymes in the bio digester the water from the bio digester is free from all odor/bad smell. The bio enzymes also help the bio digester against overflowing, backflowing, clogging, blocking among many more benefits. The bio digester occupies a very small space and the fact that its installed/ constructed underground, the top part can be used for other purposes. Bio digester is constructed using concrete or masonry which make it film to carry more weight on the top. Bio digester holds less waste as it only carries black water (water from the toilet) while the gray water (water from the kitchen and bathroom) by pass to the soak pit. Construction of bio digester comes with the installation of a grease trap through which the kitchen water passes through to ensure that fat is separated from the water to avoid cause of blockage by these fat at the soak pit. Bio digester are constructed in different sizes depending on the number of users anticipated to use the system. The larger the number of users the bigger the size in volume of the bio digester to be installed. Bio digester is environmentally friendly since it does not pollute the environment by air or nose. It requires less maintenance, addition of bio-enzymes when necessary.
